As a young charming Pathan, he began
his career in the most entertaining fashion by hitting a 37 ball 100, picked as
a genuine spinner in the team later became a nightmare for the bowlers caused by his fearless hitting. The clean striker of the ball frequently cleared the fence
with ease, such was his power. The formula of “Ya mai out, Ya pir ball out” didn’t
helped his cause all the time but on his day mostly the ball was out of the park,
and whenever he was out the crowd left the ground on almost every occasion,
but the love from the crowd never lessened, such was his fan base.
He made things happen, played Tests like ODIs, ODIs
like T20s and T20s like EA Sports cricket game. He almost destroyed every
record when he was on his peak, his batting style made the bowler to bowl bad
deliveries to him. His Heartless hitting always forced the opposition captains
to change the field from ball one after his arrival at the crease.
He had it all, the ability to turn the game in
seconds in favour of the team and vice versa. He was the man of Big games, won WT20 2009 for Pakistan by his tremendous performances
in the semis and in the final.

His record in winning matches for Pakistan is remarkable, Pakistan won 218 ODI matches out of 398 and 56 out of 98 T20i when Afridi was part of the playing XI. He was never know as a test match player, Pakistan won only 9 matches of 27 when Afridi was in the final XI and 9 of them were draw matches.
The power hitter has 52 sixes in tests, 351 sixes in ODIs and 73 sixes in T20Is under his belt. His 69.4 percent of runs in tests, 62.3 percent of runs in ODIs and 60.2 percent of runs in T20Is came form boundaries (4s&6s).

Bowling was his main weapon, as a bowler he was Shane Warne when he drifted the ball, he was Abdul Qadir when he spun the ball and he was Shoaib Akthar when he bowled a quicker one. He is 2nd in the list of getting most 5 wicket hauls in ODIs by a Pakistani. Nine 5 wicket hauls in an innings just behind Waqar Younis who has (13) 5 wicket hauls under his belt.

He was not just a player but a
brand, a dream, a man of courage who never changed his game, played his all
cricket with dignity and pride for the country. An ambassador for Pakistan and for cricket worldwide.
Some might not like him but all
in all he was a match winner and a legend of the game. We call him Boom Boom and He loves the title.
